My cat Bertie is absolutely spoilt and has been since he arrived here almost four years ago. After sharing our lives with another cat for 19 years, we knew that we needed to provide him with something to scratch to protect our furniture. When he was a tiny kitten, I bought him a cardboard scratchy pad which he LOVED. Since then, he has had (and destroyed) at least two each year. He doesn’t just use them for scratching, he sleeps on them too!
Scratching posts for indoor cats
As well as his cardboard scratchy pads (of which he currently has three on the go) we made sure we bought him a proper scratching post. Bertie is an indoor cat so we have to make sure he has a lot of stimulation. When he was tiny, he used to sit on top of his first scratching post. He soon outgrew it, so it got passed on to my brother’s cat. We replaced it with another, larger scratching post which he loves. The issue we have with this one though is that he’s a strong boy and it doesn’t always stay upright when he’s using it.
Catipilla scratching posts
Bertie is a very big cat – he’s currently around 8kg and is very tall and long for tabby cat. He’s very boisterous and when he’s in one of his playful moods he will run at the scratching post which usually ends up with it toppling over. Luckily, we have found a great solution in Catipilla cat furniture. I was sent one of the scratching posts which you can mount to a wall. It took a couple of weeks for us to get the correct rawl plugs for it, so in the meantime we had it on the floor for Bertie to get used to. He spent a lot of time sniffing it and occasionally scratching it.

Once up on the wall, the Catipilla scratching post has provided hours of fun for Bert. We put it up in the living room – his other scratching post is in the dining room and his cat tree is in the conservatory. This way he has something he can stretch and scratch on in each room. It’s been placed just behind a door which doesn’t open fully. This way, it’s out of the way but there’s also no risk of us squishing him by accident. He absolutely loves the scratching post and often chooses it over his scratchy pads these days! It’s great how we could pick the size of the post and we were also able to choose how high it goes on the wall. Bertie likes to stretch out and with him being such a tall cat, other posts just weren’t big enough.
I’d definitely recommend the Catipilla range for anyone with a cat, especially if they’re bigger than your average moggy!
