The first thing I did after booking flights was a Google search to see if there was a cat cafe in Prague. When I started planning my trip to Prague, the first thing that I did was see if they had a cat café. It turns out that they don’t just have one, they have four! I knew that I had to visit Prague’s cat cafes, so I began doing my research. I didn’t have time to do all four, but I thought that two was a good compromise.
Kavarna Kočičí
On my first day in Prague, I decided to visit Kavarna Kočičí. This was a bit of a walk outside of the Old Town, so I planned to visit after my walking tour and trip up the Old Town Hall tower. Located in the Karlín district of Prague, Kavarna Kocici is a small, family run cat café.
I did book a table before my trip, however this really wasn’t necessary. At 5:30pm on a Friday, the café wasn’t too busy. When I arrived, I was able to choose where I sat and I decided on a table in the upstairs section which already had a black cat sat on it. There was also a black and white cat sat on the merchandise next to the counter which made me laugh. If you wanted to buy a badge to support the cat café, you had to go through him first! There are ten cats at Kavarna Kočičí and they all seem really happy. Most of them were just snoozing, but there were a couple who were wandering around. One ginger boy was very playful and I loved watching him.
I had a quick look at the menu, but I wasn’t really hungry. As I wasn’t hungry, I just chose to have a drink although the cakes did look really nice. I went for an iced latte which was 69 CZK. When it arrived, I was shocked at the size of it, it was basically a pint! It was definitely great value for money. There is a cover charge when you visit the cat café, as there are at most. This goes towards the welfare of the cats and costs 25 CZK which is less than £1. As a comparison, most of the cat cafes in England that I have visited have a cover charge of £5-£6. All together, my visit to Kavarna Kočičí cost me 94CZK. £3.27 for a huge iced latte and an hour or so with some cats – that’s a great bargain!
Cat Café Prague
On my second day, I went to another cat cafe in Prague. I chose CatCaféPrague as it is more in the centre and also near the Dancing House which I also wanted to see. It is a 22 minute walk from the Old Town Hall although there is a metro stop nearby, Karlovo náměstí and plenty of tram stops.
CatCaféPrague has a set price for one hour of 120 CZK (around £4.08). You also get charged 1 CZK (about 3p) for every extra minute you spend at the cafe after the initial hour is up. This price covers the usual welfare charge and also allows you to help yourself to unlimited hot and cold drinks and snacks. In the hour that we were there, we had a couple of cups of coffee each. This definitely makes it really good value as you would pay that just for one coffee. I also had a lot of biscuits and cakes.
CatCaféPrague is the biggest cat cafe that I have ever been to. There are four rooms: a main room with sofas, a games room with more sofas and games consoles, a room full of cat beds and then the kitchen. This means that the cats had so much room to roam around. We only saw three cats while we were in the main room. There were three cats that were really happy to be at the front of the cafe, by the door. All of them seemed so happy and so well looked after.
These two cat cafes were numbers 14 and 15 on my list and I really enjoyed both of them. I definitely recommend you pay them a visit if you are in Prague. Next time I am in the city, I’m planning on czeching out the other two. (I’m sorry!)
